SB 529 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. § 1280.1 regarding possession of firearms on school property to increase administrative fines for handgun license holders who violate the law.

• Raises the administrative fine from $100 to $200 for persons with a valid handgun license who are found in violation of the school property firearms prohibition.

• Maintains existing exceptions allowing firearms for hunting/fishing in vehicles, approved training courses, firearms sports events, and peace officers performing duties.

• Increases the criminal penalty for violations to include a fine up to $5,000 and imprisonment for up to 2 years, with permanent revocation of handgun licenses for violators.

• Takes effect November 1, 2013.
