SB559 Summary

• Amends Oklahoma School Testing Program to allow students to demonstrate mastery of state academic content standards through alternative test scores, including ACT, SAT, ACT Plan, PSAT/NMSQT, Advanced Placement, ACT WorkKeys, CLEP, and International Baccalaureate exams.

• Students scoring 10 percent above State Board of Education-approved cut scores on ACT, SAT, ACT Plan, or PSAT/NMSQT are exempt from end-of-instruction criterion-referenced tests in Algebra II, English III, Geometry, and United States History.

• Students achieving scores equal to or above approved cut scores on Advanced Placement, ACT WorkKeys, CLEP, or International Baccalaureate exams are exempt from corresponding end-of-instruction tests in specified subject areas.

• Directs State Board of Education to adopt rules for implementing alternative test score provisions and to designate students as proficient or advanced based on scores obtained for purposes of school accountability, teacher and administrator evaluation, and other statutory purposes.

• Maintains existing end-of-instruction testing requirements for students who do not qualify for exemptions under alternative test score provisions.
