SB 583 Summary

• Extends the time period for vehicle owners to contest removal or storage from 10 to 15 days following actual or constructive notice, per Section 903A.

• Requires the Department of Public Safety to send notices to vehicle owners and lienholders by both first class mail and certified mail with return receipt requested, rather than regular mail only, per Section 903.

• Repeals outdated Sections 909 and 910 of Title 47 O.S. 2011 relating to motor vehicle lien procedures.

• Modifies the notice requirement for vehicle towing under Section 954A to include specific information such as wrecker contact details, vehicle location, description with photograph, and statements regarding the owner's right to a hearing.

• Takes effect November 1, 2013.
