SB634 Summary

• Amends the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act (59 O.S. 2011, Section 567.3a) to expand the scope of practice for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs).

• Authorizes CRNAs to order, select, obtain, and administer legend drugs, Schedules II through V controlled substances, devices, and medical gases during perioperative and periobstetrical periods when engaged in anesthesia-related activities.

• Requires CRNAs to complete 15 units of continuing education in advanced pharmacology related to anesthesia administration within two years prior to application for drug authorization; subsequent renewals require 8 units every two years.

• Permits CRNAs in licensed hospitals to provide lumbar intra-laminar epidural steroid injections and peripheral nerve blocks without violating the Oklahoma Interventional Pain Management and Treatment Act.

• Effective date: September 1, 2013.
