SB 682 Summary

• Establishes Oklahoma State University Fire Service Training (OSU FST) purpose to develop, deliver, and evaluate training and professional certification programs for fire service and emergency responders in the state.

• Requires OSU FST to collaborate with technology center schools, training providers, and the Oklahoma Council on Firefighter Training (COFT) to deliver statewide training and maintain a database of qualified instructors on its website.

• Directs OSU FST to develop, adopt, and disseminate curriculum and instructional materials to fire departments at minimal or no cost, with selection and use remaining optional unless required by state or federal regulations.

• Establishes an accredited certification program based on National Fire Protection Association and state/federal standards, with authority to develop state-specific certifications approved by COFT that avoid duplicating existing accredited certifications.

• Designates OSU FST as Oklahoma's state government representative to the United States Fire Administration's National Fire Academy and requires annual reporting to university leadership; effective November 1, 2013.
