SB 82 Summary

• Amends 70 O.S. 2011, Section 3311.5 regarding law enforcement certification and the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET).

• Authorizes municipalities with populations of 65,000 or more to operate separate basic law enforcement training academies, and permits qualified municipal academies to accept officers for training from municipalities within a 25-mile radius.

• Establishes that municipalities or counties authorized to operate academies after November 1, 2007 are ineligible for state funding, while those authorized prior to that date continue receiving funding.

• Maintains existing requirements for CLEET-mandated training on mental health issues, sexual assault, oil field theft, and domestic violence/stalking investigations.

• Effective date: November 1, 2013.
