Oklahoma SB 853 Summary

• Amends 63 O.S. 2011, Section 1-551.1 to expand the State Commissioner of Health's authority over tumor registry requirements and data reporting.

• Permits the State Commissioner to require hospitals, clinics, laboratories, pathologists, physicians, dentists, and facilities providing cancer treatment services to report patient data including name, address, medical history, diagnosis, disease stage, and treatment information.

• Establishes exemption for ambulatory service centers that submit a signed affidavit confirming they use a sole source pathology laboratory for required cancer data reporting.

• Maintains patient and physician confidentiality protections, prohibiting identity disclosure without written consent except for approved legitimate research activities and other specified circumstances.

• Effective date: November 1, 2013.
