SB 9 Summary

• Removes the limitation restricting bail bondsmen to writing no more than ten bonds per year in counties where they are registered.

• Allows bondsmen to write surety bonds in their county of residence without limitation and in other counties upon filing a certified copy of their license and paying a $10 fee to each district court clerk.

• Requires district court clerks to provide judges and law enforcement with a list of authorized bondsmen in their county and permits courts to set bail in counties with no licensed bondsmen.

• Updates gender-neutral language throughout the statute to use "he or she" and "the bondsman" instead of masculine pronouns.

• Effective date is July 1, 2013, with an emergency clause allowing immediate implementation upon passage and approval.
