SB 915 Summary - Nondiscrimination in Treatment Act

• Creates the "Nondiscrimination in Treatment Act" requiring health care providers to provide life-preserving health care services without discrimination based on age, disability status, or terminal illness

• Defines "life-preserving health care service" as any medical care whose denial would result in or hasten the patient's death, including therapy, testing, diagnosis, surgery, medication, and other treatments

• Prohibits health care providers from denying treatment based on views that elderly, disabled, or terminally ill patients' lives have lower value, or disagreement with patient/guardian values regarding life extension versus disability risk

• Allows affected patients or persons legally authorized to make health care decisions to bring injunctive relief actions against health care providers who violate the act

• Effective November 1, 2013
