Deborah Cornelison of Byng Junior High School has been inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame as one of only five teachers nationwide in her year of induction.

Cornelison has taught physical science to 9th graders for 24 years and has won numerous teaching awards including Oklahoma Science Teachers Association Teacher of the Year, Oklahoma Foundation of Excellence Award for Secondary Teaching in 2005, and Shell Science Teaching Award in 2009.

She holds a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in education from East Central University and is nationally-certified in adolescent and young adulthood science.

Cornelison serves as grant writer and director for the Mathematics and Science partnership program in Pontotoc County and is active in the National Science Teachers Association.

The Oklahoma State Legislature congratulates Cornelison for her National Teachers Hall of Fame induction and applauds her dedication to her students.
