ENGROSSED SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 24

• Proposes amendment to Articles 1, 2, and 3 of Article VII of the Oklahoma Constitution to limit service as a Justice of the Supreme Court or Judge of any appellate court to twenty (20) years total (non-consecutive).

• Eliminates the requirement for justices and judges to appear on retention ballots during the twenty-year service period.

• Provides that any justice or judge serving on January 1, 2015, may complete their current term and serve an additional twenty (20) years thereafter, without appearing on retention ballots during that extended period.

• Directs the Secretary of State to refer the proposed amendment to voters for approval through a ballot measure including specified ballot title and gist of the proposition.

• Requires the President Pro Tempore of the Senate to file the resolution with the Secretary of State and Attorney General immediately upon passage.
