Senate Resolution 18 Summary

• Oklahoma State Senate supports and recognizes the vital work of family caregivers for older adults and commits to seeking additional ways to support them through information, education, training, and relief care.

• Projects Oklahoma's population age 85 and older will reach 131,000 by 2032, with approximately 596,000 state adults currently providing care to relatives or friends, valued at an estimated $6 billion annually.

• Encourages the Aging Services Division of the Department of Human Services to focus on recruiting, retaining, and supporting both family and paid caregivers for older adults.

• Directs the Aging Services Division to review state policies and programs addressing the needs of older adults and caregivers, and to provide additional information and education on supporting older adults in their homes.

• Directs distribution of the resolution to Marjorie Lyons, State President of AARP Oklahoma.
