HB 1293 Summary

• Amends 22 O.S. 2011, Section 988.8 (Oklahoma Community Sentencing Act) to authorize courts to enter orders regarding driving privileges for offenders in community sentencing programs.

• Allows courts to stay suspension, revocation, cancellation or denial of Class D driving privileges if the offender has no other transportation available and provides proof of insurance.

• Permits courts to restore Class D driving privileges upon successful completion of community sentencing, except for drug- or alcohol-related offenses (other than the offense being served).

• Requires the Department of Public Safety to designate in driving records when suspension/revocation periods are satisfied and mandates electronic notification from court clerks regarding successful program completion.

• Directs the Department of Public Safety to promulgate rules for implementation and becomes effective November 1, 2013.
