HB 1376 Summary

• Requires municipal officers elected or appointed for the first time to attend an 8-hour institute for municipal officials within one year of taking office.

• Officers must attend 6 hours of continuing instruction from the institute every 24 months thereafter to remain in office.

• Institute curriculum must cover municipal budget requirements, Open Meeting Act, Open Records Act, ethics, meeting procedures, conflict of interest, and purchasing procedures.

• Officers who fail to complete the required training shall cease to hold office at the next scheduled governing body meeting following the first-year anniversary.

• Effective date: November 1, 2013.
