HB 1558 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. 2011, Section 1903 (Bus Passenger Safety Act) to replace references to "bus" with "public transportation" throughout the statute.

• Updates penalties for seizing or controlling public transportation by force or violence: up to 20 years imprisonment and/or up to $20,000 fine.

• Modifies Section D to allow persons with valid handgun licenses issued under the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act to carry concealed handguns on public transportation (previously prohibited for all non-law enforcement personnel).

• Maintains existing penalties for intimidation, threats, assault or battery against transportation personnel (up to 10 years and/or $5,000 fine) and for weapons possession violations (up to 10 years and/or $10,000 fine).

• Effective date: November 1, 2013.
