HB 1887 Summary

• Changes school board election dates from the second Tuesday in February to the first Tuesday in April for members of boards of education in all school districts and technology center school districts.

• Modifies runoff election dates to the second Tuesday in June for odd-numbered years and the fourth Tuesday in June for even-numbered years when no candidate receives more than 50% of votes.

• Shifts candidate filing deadline from the first Monday in December through the following Wednesday to the first Monday in February through the following Wednesday.

• Eliminates the election procedure for school districts with more than 10,000 children in average daily membership that previously allowed for primary elections and runoff elections in board districts.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2014.
