HB 2321 Summary

• Amends Section 1-550.5 of Oklahoma law to require birthing facilities to perform Krabbe leukodystrophy screening on newborns in addition to existing pulse oximetry screening.

• Mandates that the State Department of Health require each licensed birthing facility to perform both screenings on every newborn prior to discharge from the facility.

• Defines "birthing facility" as an inpatient or ambulatory health care facility licensed by the State Department of Health that provides birthing and newborn care services.

• Requires the State Board of Health to promulgate rules necessary to implement and carry out the screening requirements.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2014.
