ENGR. H. B. NO. 2329 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. Section 1277 to allow handgun license holders to carry firearms in locked vehicles parked on public and private school property, including parking lots and designated parking areas.

• Modifies 21 O.S. Section 1280.1 to define motor vehicle and private school, and allows licensed individuals to store handguns in locked vehicles on school property that is set aside for vehicle parking.

• Reduces penalties for violating school firearm restrictions from felony (five thousand dollars fine and up to two years imprisonment) to misdemeanor (two hundred fifty dollars fine).

• Adds new subsection G to Section 1277 defining "motor vehicle" for purposes of the act, covering automobiles, trucks, minivans, sports utility vehicles, motorcycles, and other registered vehicles.

• Effective date November 1, 2014.
