HB 2348 Summary

• Authorizes counties, municipalities, cities, towns, schools, and other political subdivisions to display replicas of historically significant documents including the Ten Commandments, Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Oklahoma Constitution on public buildings and public grounds.

• Permits display of such historical documents in the form of statues, monuments, memorials, tablets, or other displays that respect the dignity and solemnity of the documents.

• Authorizes the Oklahoma Attorney General to prepare and present legal defense if the legality or constitutionality of any such display is challenged in court.

• Establishes legislative intent that certain historical documents recognized worldwide commemorate freedom and the rich history of Oklahoma and the United States.

• Effective date: November 1, 2014.
