HB 2374 Summary

• Amends 59 O.S. 2011, Section 353.1 to modify definitions under the Oklahoma Pharmacy Act, including clarifying that pharmacies operated by the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs are included in pharmacy and hospital definitions.

• Establishes mandatory medication services procedures for facilities operated by the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs, including inventory records for controlled medications tracked by individual dose units.

• Requires resident names on individual medication drawers for prescribed medications and placement of medication strength, dosage, and directions on medical administration records (MAR).

• Mandates return of unused medications to facility pharmacy when residents are permanently discharged, and return of discontinued or deceased resident medications to the facility pharmacy.

• Allows facilities to maintain nonprescription bulk medications per a formulary developed by the facility pharmacist, medical director, and nursing director, with an effective date of November 1, 2014.
