HB2423 Summary

• Amends 70 O.S. Section 5-144 to require district courts to notify the State Board of Education when criminal charges are filed against school employees or students.

• District attorneys must notify school superintendents when charges are filed against students or employees, and must also notify the State Board of Education specifically for employee charges.

• When a student is convicted of certain crimes, the district court must notify the State Board of Education, which then notifies the superintendent and affected teachers.

• When an employee is convicted of certain crimes, the district court must notify the State Board of Education if the court discovers during proceedings that the person is a school employee.

• Effective date: November 1, 2014.
