HB 2443 Summary

• Amends 69 O.S. 2011, Section 1600 to modify the requirement that groups sponsoring highway and bridge naming signs must pay associated costs.

• Creates an exception to the cost-sharing requirement for highways and bridges named to honor United States Armed Forces members killed while participating in contingency operations.

• Defines "contingency operation" as a military operation designated by the Secretary of Defense involving armed forces in military actions against an enemy, or resulting in activation of uniformed services under specified federal statutes.

• Designates the bridge where U.S. Highway 69 crosses the Arkansas River at the Wagoner and Muskogee county line as the "Specialist Joshua M. 'Bubba' Seals Memorial Bridge" and requires the Department of Transportation to place permanent markers bearing that name.

• Repeals Section 12, Chapter 270, O.S.L. 2013 (69 O.S. Supp. 2013, Section 1698.171), which previously established the Specialist Joshua M. "Bubba" Seals Memorial Bridge.
