HB 2490 Summary

• Amends 63 O.S. 2011, Section 942 regarding medical examiner reports to add requirements for family notification before public release.

• Requires the Chief Medical Examiner to furnish copies of reports to the spouse or any person within one degree of consanguinity (blood relative) of the deceased within 5 business days of request, once cause and manner of death are determined and death certificate is issued.

• Prohibits release of medical examiner reports to the public prior to release to eligible family members, provided the family member requests the report within 5 business days of death determination and death certificate issuance.

• Effective date: November 1, 2014.
