HB 2526 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. 2011, Section 142A-3 to require peace officers to inform domestic violence victims of their rights in writing using a preprinted card or brochure.

• Requires officers investigating intimate partner violence to conduct a lethality assessment using 11 specific questions about weapon use, threats, strangulation, jealousy/control, separation status, unemployment, suicide attempts, non-biological children, and stalking/harassment.

• Mandates referrals to shelters, domestic violence intervention programs, and other social services based on lethality assessment results.

• Takes effect November 1, 2014.
