HB 2539 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. 2011, Section 733 regarding justifiable homicide in Oklahoma law.

• Clarifies that homicide is justifiable when a person reasonably believes force is necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm to themselves or another, or to terminate or prevent a forcible felony.

• Defines "forcible felony" as any felony involving the use or threat of physical force or violence against any person.

• Changes language from "either" to "any" of the following cases when justifiable homicide applies, and modernizes outdated familial relationship terminology.

• Effective date: November 1, 2014.
