H.B. 2568 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. 2011, Section 388 relating to attempted juror influence by changing language from gender-specific to gender-neutral pronouns ("or her" added).

• Changes the offense of attempting to influence a juror from a misdemeanor to a felony offense.

• Establishes punishment for felony juror influence as a fine not to exceed $5,000.00 and/or imprisonment in the State Penitentiary for up to 10 years.

• Removes the fifth method of juror influence (publishing statements or arguments relating to the case) from the statute, reducing the enumerated methods from five to four.

• Effective date: November 1, 2014.
