House Bill 2613 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. 2011, Section 1685 regarding animal cruelty laws to clarify that humane destruction of animals by firearm is permitted.

• Establishes that animal owners or persons with effective consent of the owner may humanely destroy an animal by use of a firearm without violating cruelty statutes.

• Specifies that owners are not required to seek veterinary care prior to humanely destroying an animal by firearm.

• Specifies that owners are not required to seek a new owner, caregiver, or animal shelter placement prior to humanely destroying an animal by firearm.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2014.
