HB 2617 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. 2011, Section 1277 regarding unlawful carry of firearms in certain places by valid handgun license holders.

• Prohibits handgun carry in courthouses, courtrooms, prisons, jails, detention facilities, public/private schools, sports arenas during professional events, pari-mutuel wagering locations, and government buildings with security checkpoints.

• Clarifies that parking areas, adjacent property, parks, recreational areas, and fairgrounds designated by government authorities are excluded from prohibited places.

• Establishes misdemeanor penalty of up to $250 fine for violations; removes administrative fine provision and hearing process by Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

• Effective November 1, 2014.
