• Defines "central service technician" as a person who decontaminates, inspects, assembles, packages, and sterilizes reusable medical instruments or devices in healthcare facilities, whether employed or contracted

• Requires healthcare facilities to employ or contract central service technicians only if they hold certified credentials from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management or the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution, or had healthcare employment in the two years prior to November 1, 2014

• Allows existing employees without required credentials on November 1, 2014 an 18-month grace period to obtain certification

• Mandates all qualified central service technicians complete minimum of 10 hours of annual continuing education credits to maintain qualification
