HB2883 Summary

• Amends 19 O.S. 2011, Section 510 to modify county sheriff qualifications in Oklahoma

• Raises educational requirement from high school diploma to an associate degree for sheriff candidates

• Requires candidates to be actively employed as a full-time CLEET-certified peace officer with at least 10 years of experience as a full-time peace officer

• Removes the special requirement for counties with populations of 500,000 or more (which previously required current certification)

• Becomes effective November 1, 2014; does not apply to sheriffs serving prior to statute adoption
