HB 2887 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. Section 1277 regarding unlawful carrying of firearms by handgun licensees in prohibited places (government buildings, jails, schools, sports arenas, pari-mutuel facilities).

• Allows colleges, universities, and technology center schools to establish their own policies authorizing handgun possession on campus property, either through individual written consent or general institutional policy.

• Provides liability immunity to private schools and higher education institutions that adopt policies permitting licensed handgun possession on their property.

• Removes administrative hearing requirement and fine previously imposed for violations of firearm policies at colleges and universities.

• Effective date: November 1, 2014.
