HB 3169 Summary

• Creates the "Oklahoma Court System Task Force" that will exist until January 1, 2016, to study the state court system and recommend ways to simplify and streamline courts through statutory rewrites.

• Task Force consists of 13 members including the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Presiding Judge of the Court of Criminal Appeals, Attorney General, Director of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Director of the Department of Corrections, chairs and vice-chairs of House and Senate judiciary committees, three district attorneys appointed by legislative and executive leadership, and one Oklahoma Bar Association member appointed by the Governor.

• Members shall be appointed by December 1, 2014, conduct an organizational meeting by December 31, 2014, and meet at least monthly; vacancies filled by the appointing authority in the same manner as original appointments.

• Task Force members serve without compensation and receive no travel reimbursement; staff assistance provided by Oklahoma House and Senate staffs; Task Force subject to Oklahoma Open Meeting Act and Oklahoma Open Records Act.

• Task Force must submit a report to the Governor, President Pro Tempore of the Oklahoma State Senate, and Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives by December 31, 2015, containing recommendations to streamline and improve efficiency of the state court system.
