SB 1172 Summary

• Authorizes the Governor to award a state medal for heroism to Oklahoma citizens who perform valorous and heroic deeds in saving lives or serving the state, community, or public health and safety.

• Medal may be awarded directly or posthumously and presented by the Governor with an appropriate ceremony.

• Governor has authority to select the medal design and expend funds from the Governor's office Executive Office budget or private donations for design and purchase costs.

• Establishes this authority as a new section codified in Title 74, Section 9 of Oklahoma Statutes.

• Declared an emergency measure, effective upon passage and approval.
