SB 1295 Summary

• Amends Section 5-149 of Title 70 O.S. to modify school safety drill requirements for all public schools in Oklahoma

• Requires a minimum of eight safety drills per school year: two fire drills, two intruder drills, two tornado drills, and two additional drills at principal/superintendent discretion

• Fire drills and intruder drills must be conducted within the first 15 days of each semester; tornado drills must include at least one drill in September and one in March

• Allows school districts to determine the extent of student involvement required for intruder drills (paragraph 2 of the safety drill requirements)

• Becomes effective July 1, 2014 with an emergency clause for immediate implementation upon passage and approval
