SB 1310 Summary

• Creates the Curricular Standards Task Force through December 31, 2014, to review curricular standards approved by the State Board of Education and recommend new standards to the Legislature.

• Establishes a 16-member task force including representatives from education, school boards, superintendents, parents, business, higher education, and the military, with appointments to be made within 30 days and an organizational meeting within 60 days.

• Task force duties include reviewing curricular standards changes, aligning K-12 standards with college and career readiness, aligning assessments with college and career readiness benchmarks, and evaluating assessment effectiveness.

• Members may be reimbursed for necessary travel expenses by their employing or represented entities contingent upon available funding, with administrative staff support provided by the Legislature and technical assistance from the State Department of Education and State Regents for Higher Education.

• Task force must submit recommendations to the Governor, Speaker of the House, President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and relevant legislative committees by December 31, 2014; effective date July 1, 2014, with emergency declared.
