SB 1332 Summary

• Authorizes the Department of Public Safety to create a knowledge test for Class D driver license applicants that may be taken on the Internet.

• Requires automatic downgrade of commercial driver licenses (Class A, B, or C) to Class D if the holder fails to submit federally required medical certification information per 49 C.F.R. Part 391.41 et seq.

• Allows reinstatement of a downgraded commercial license to its prior classification without requiring reapplication once the required medical certification information is received by the Department.

• Permits waiver of designated examiner certification fees for public school employees who administer skills tests only to students enrolled in a public school driver education program.

• Adds driver education courses certified by other states as an acceptable alternative to in-state programs for Class D license applicants; effective July 1, 2014.
