SB 1405 Summary

• Amends 59 O.S. Section 396.12b to require personal supervision by licensed funeral directors for both funerals and cremations conducted in Oklahoma.

• Adds requirement for licensed funeral directors to supervise all cremation arrangements made with family members or other persons, not just crematory operations.

• Deletes an exemption that previously allowed crematories licensed by the Board to operate outside supervision requirements.

• Requires licensed funeral directors to remain in supervision from first call through final disposition of human remains, and ensures caskets/containers are not damaged beyond normal burial/disposition wear.

• Effective date: November 1, 2014.
