SB 1421 Summary

• Amends 12 O.S. 2011, Section 1631, which governs the right to petition for a change of name in Oklahoma district court

• Maintains existing eligibility requirements: natural persons must be domiciled in Oklahoma or residing on a military reservation for more than 30 days, and be an actual county resident for more than 30 days before filing

• Prohibits any person required to register as a sex offender pursuant to the Oklahoma Sex Offenders Registration Act from petitioning for a change of name

• Preserves existing provisions allowing minors to bring name change actions through a guardian or next friend

• Becomes effective November 1, 2014
