SB 1422 Summary

• Amends 70 O.S. 2011, Section 11-103.6 to modify high school graduation requirements related to curricular standards and mathematics courses in Oklahoma public schools.

• Directs the State Board of Education to approve an Advanced Placement Computer Science course to meet mathematics competency requirements if taken in a student's senior year while concurrently enrolled in or having completed Algebra II.

• Allows mathematics courses taught at technology center schools by certified teachers in grades 11-12 to count toward graduation requirements upon approval by the State Board of Education and independent district boards.

• Provides flexibility for districts to offer contextual mathematics courses at comprehensive high schools or technology centers that enhance technology preparation and can be counted toward the three required mathematics units for graduation.

• Becomes effective July 1, 2014, with an emergency declaration allowing immediate implementation upon passage and approval.
