SB 1524 - Memorial Highway Designations

• Designates seven memorial highways and bridges in Oklahoma honoring deceased members of the United States Armed Forces, including the LCpl Lamont N. Wilson Memorial Highway on Interstate 44 in Comanche County (mile markers 42-44).

• Names additional memorials: Lance Corporal Jonathan Stroud Memorial Highway on State Highway 74; Captain Kyle King Memorial Highway on U.S. Highway 64 between Perry and Morrison; and four memorial bridges for PFC Philip F. Gaines, First Lieutenant S.W. "Dub" George, Specialist Joshua M. "Bubba" Seals, and Staff Sgt. Vinson Bryon "Trinity" Adkinson.

• Designates the Captain Frederick F. Henry Medal of Honor Memorial Highway on State Highway 82 in Vian.

• Requires the Department of Transportation to place suitable permanent markers bearing these names on the designated highways and bridges.

• Amends 69 O.S. 2011, Section 1600 to exempt military memorial designations from sponsor-paid signage costs, applying to Armed Forces members killed while participating in contingency operations as defined by Secretary of Defense.

• Repeals prior legislation establishing the Specialist Joshua M. "Bubba" Seals Memorial Bridge.

• Effective November 1, 2014.
