SB1589 Summary

• Transfers all powers, duties, responsibilities, employees, records, and equipment related to licensed inspectors from the Construction Industries Board to the Uniform Building Code Commission.

• Transfers all unexpended funds, property, equipment, and outstanding financial obligations to the Uniform Building Code Commission, with restrictions on use only for inspector-related functions.

• Prohibits the Construction Industries Board from entering into contracts extending beyond the transfer date without approval from the Uniform Building Code Commission and Office of Management and Enterprise Services.

• Ensures all transferred employees retain their merit or unclassified status, pay, benefits, and accrued leave without reduction; employees may decline the transfer and assignment.

• Becomes effective July 1, 2014, with an emergency declaration for immediate implementation.
