SB 1605 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. 2011, Section 1835.2 regarding trespass on private land devoted to farming, ranching, or forestry purposes.

• Allows individuals unable to contact a property owner to enter private land for the sole purpose of timely recovery of their loose animal if they first notify the county sheriff, who must record the notifier's name, driver license number, and location.

• Maintains existing penalties for trespass: $500-$1,500 fine for first offense with court-ordered restitution; $1,500-$2,500 fine or 30 days to 6 months jail for second and subsequent offenses.

• Preserves existing exemptions for peace officers, government employees, firefighters, emergency personnel, utility workers, and oil and gas operators performing their duties.

• Becomes effective November 1, 2014.
