SB 1663 Summary

• Requires charter school sponsors to terminate contracts if a school receives a letter grade of "D" or lower for three consecutive years or an "F" for two consecutive years, effective beginning with the 2014-15 school year.

• Mandates the Statewide Virtual Charter School Board to terminate statewide virtual charter school contracts under the same performance standards (D or lower for three consecutive years, or F for two consecutive years).

• Requires sponsors to provide at least 90 days' written notice before terminating a contract and directs sponsors to notify the State Board of Education when revoking sponsorship.

• Allows students from closed charter schools to enroll in their resident school district or apply for a transfer under existing provisions.

• Declares the act effective July 1, 2014, and declares an emergency for immediate implementation.
