SB 1693 Summary

• Amends 26 O.S. 2011, Section 1-105 to establish procedures for replacing deceased political party nominees before the General Election.

• For county office nominees: party's county central committee must notify the county election board of a substitute candidate in writing within 15 days of death, but no later than 5 p.m. on the Friday following the Runoff Primary Election.

• For state and federal office nominees: party's state central committee must notify the State Election Board of a substitute candidate within 15 days of death, but no later than 5 p.m. on the Friday following the Runoff Primary Election.

• If a deceased candidate's name appears on the ballot and wins election, a vacancy occurs on the date the candidate would have taken office and is filled according to law.

• Becomes effective January 1, 2015.
