SB 1724 Summary

• Extends sunset date for the Board of Governors of Licensed Architects, Landscape Architects and Registered Interior Designers to July 1, 2020.

• Adds 12 new powers and duties to the Board, including authority to issue temporary licenses for architects, landscape architects, and interior designers during declared emergencies or for military service reciprocity.

• Clarifies licensure and examination requirements; permits computer-based examinations; allows equivalent standards for military personnel under the Post-Military Service Occupation, Education and Credentialing Act.

• Prohibits architects and landscape architects from competitively bidding on projects for which they prepared plans unless the contract is a design/build contract.

• Requires architects and landscape architects to sign, seal, and date all construction documents and technical submissions; specifies design competition procedures requiring applicants to obtain licensure within 10-30 days of winning.
