SB 1738 Summary

• Amends 19 O.S. 2011, Section 517.1 regarding maintenance and disposal of county departmental records.

• Allows county governing bodies to establish retention periods for departmental records and authorizes the sheriff to dispose of or convert records to microfilm or similar medium.

• Establishes a minimum 7-year retention requirement for all departmental records.

• Eliminates the previous requirement that records held solely by the sheriff be kept in perpetuity in retrievable form; replaces it with the standard 7-year minimum retention period.

• Effective date: November 1, 2014.
