SB 1838 Summary

• Creates the Task Force on the Effect of Alzheimer's Disease in Oklahoma to continue until September 1, 2015, with purpose to review and revise the 2009 State Plan and update the state's response strategy to Alzheimer's disease.

• Establishes an 18-member task force with appointments distributed among the Speaker of the House (4 members), President Pro Tempore of the Senate (4 members), Governor (5 members), and 5 public sector agency representatives.

• Members must include persons with Alzheimer's disease, family caregivers, healthcare providers, scientists specializing in Alzheimer's research, and representatives from nursing facilities, assisted living, and the Alzheimer's Association.

• Requires the task force to examine state trends in Alzheimer's disease, long-term care services, state policy on dementia, existing resources and capacity, and develop updated recommendations for coordinated services and supports.

• Task force must submit final report to the Legislature and Governor by September 1, 2015, with provision for the Alzheimer's State Plan to be reviewed every five years with legislative approval.
