Senate Bill 394 Summary

• Amends 19 O.S. 2011, Section 215.29 to expand firearm carrying authority for district attorneys beyond those currently serving

• Allows retired district attorneys (with retirement system verification) to carry firearms statewide for personal protection

• Allows district attorneys who do not seek reelection or have been defeated in reelection to carry firearms statewide for personal protection

• Requires all eligible district attorneys to complete an approved firearms training course conducted by a state-certified instructor meeting Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training standards

• Permits district attorneys (at their discretion) to authorize assistant district attorneys to carry firearms under the same training requirements

• Effective date: November 1, 2013
