Senate Bill 814 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. 2011, Section 533 to add an exception for emergency medical treatment when a person needs care for life-threatening injuries or conditions that threaten loss or use of a limb.

• Requires arresting agencies to take persons needing emergency medical treatment directly to a medical facility or hospital instead of first taking them into custody or fingerprinting them.

• Mandates that after medical care is provided, the person shall be released from the medical facility and delivered by the arresting agency to a facility designated by the sheriff for receiving the person.

• Places full responsibility for emergency medical costs on the person receiving treatment, except when the injury results from an officer acting outside the scope of lawful authority.

• Effective date: November 1, 2014.
