SB 831 Summary

• Amends 21 O.S. Section 1277 to prohibit handgun license holders from carrying firearms into specified locations including government buildings, schools, sports arenas, and pari-mutuel wagering venues

• Excludes vehicle parking areas and property adjacent to prohibited structures from the firearms restrictions for license holders

• Creates exception allowing Department of Corrections employees with valid handgun licenses to carry firearms in vehicle parking areas at state-owned prison facilities

• Establishes misdemeanor penalties (up to $250 fine) and administrative fines for violations, with college/university violations subject to license suspension for three months

• Becomes effective November 1, 2013
